Sue Smith - Higher Level Teaching Assistant Rainbow I
Sue Smith has been with Rainbow Class since its inception in September 2006. Before this she worked as a nursery assistant and as Learning Support Assistant and classroom assistant in a mainstream class. Having a child who attends the John Adkins Centre for borderline moderate learning difficulties at ERS, she has a specific interest in speech, language and learning difficulties.
In 2009 Sue was awarded HLTA status (higher level TA) after completing an extension course to her NVQ3 Teaching Assistant qualification. This covered all areas of children’s learning with particular emphasis on helping children with social interaction and communication difficulties and learning difficulties.
Sue has completed various other courses for children with SEN including a six week course at Westfield Training School for children with specific learning difficulties. Sue is a competent Makaton user, has a Level 1 certificate in British Sign Language and has just embarked on Level 2 at evening classes.
