Marion Golding - Rainbow I Class Teacher

Marion Golding is leader of the Rainbow Centre.  She is a very experienced, fully qualified specialist teacher with an honours degree in education, where the particular emphasis was on special education across the age range.  This interest in special education needs led her to study at a later date for a post-graduate Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties. This covered areas such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and speech, language and communication impairment.

As part of her continuing professional development, Marion attends the annual ISC day and residential conferences which cover a wide range of relevant SEN topics. She has recently developed her Makaton signing skills by taking an evening course at Level 1 on British Sign Language (BSL). Following a course on Brain Gym, she has introduced this across the prep school.

Marion began her teaching career working in two LEA Special Schools, firstly with  children with severe learning difficulties and then with children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. Whilst spending time at home bringing up her children, Marion worked in an independent Nursery School  and then began supporting a child with learning difficulties within a mainstream class of a local prep school.

Following the completion of her SpLD, Marion joined Egerton Rothesay School to work on an individual basis with children across the age range. As SENCO for the lower school at ERS, she began to spend some of her time in Rainbow Class when it was set up in September 2005. The following year she became the full-time Rainbow Class teacher.

Part of Marion’s role  involves supporting parents throughout the statementing process, organising and chairing annual review meetings and coordinating inclusion into mainstream classes for some children from the Rainbow Centre.
