The Rainbow Centre is part of Egerton Rothesay School

Welcome to the Rainbow Centre

As Principal of Egerton Rothesay School, I am delighted to welcome you to our Rainbow Centre website.

As each child grows, I strongly believe that he or she has the potential to lead a rewarding and fulfilling life and to make a meaningful contribution into their community.

Central to their educational development is the forming of relationships and the ability to interact with other children and adults.

Unfortunately, for children  with a severe speech, language or communication impairment such as an expressive and/or receptive language delay or disorder, verbal dyspraxia, dysarthria, a  phonological disorder or a social communication difficulty, the world is a confusing place and without intervention and support it will remain so.

These children need the essential skills to process and express their own thoughts, views and needs and to understand those of other people. Without the ability to do so, they will travel through life at a distinct disadvantage. It is for these children that Egerton Rothesay School, with its long history of providing a first-class education to children who need additional support, opened its Rainbow Centre (Speech and Language Unit)  in 2005.

Through a carefully structured programme, small class groups, interaction with other children and the dedication and commitment of a talented and well qualified staff, the Rainbow Centre provides a tremendous first step in his or her education to a child with a speech, language and/ or communication difficulty. With speech and language therapy an integral part of the curriculum, all children in the Centre make significant strides in understanding and communicating with others and in their own learning.

Children remain in the Centre until the age of 9 or 10, when many will transfer into the mainstream part of our school, where they will continue to receive focused educational provision to the age of 16.  Our pupils come from many counties; Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Barnet to name a few.  For an up-to-date list of all areas supported by our school bus, please click here.

Please contact Mrs Liz Martin our admissions registrar on 01442 877060 to make an appointment if you think the Rainbow Centre may benefit your child. I would strongly encourage you to visit us, you would be most welcome.
